3 Natural Remedies for Exfoliation

As we become more inclined to delve into the world of DIY, the ease of natural recipes from home sounds increasingly appealing (and simple). No one wants to go out and buy premade recipes or products when you could have the satisfaction of using resources from home and saving money. When you’re in the mood for pampering, that’s when you come see us at Extended Hands. Other times, a quick at-home spa treatment is just the thing that will have you feeling good and seeing the results you want in no time!

Note: There are a number of food items and natural resources that can serve multiple purposes. In the case of our skin, it’s important to use materials and ingredients that will sooth your skin rather than irritate it. This may be different across varying individuals and skin types, but if you start to notice skin irritation occurring, stop using the designated recipe and transition to another with softer ingredients.

Oatmeal Facial Scrub

·         1 teaspoon baking soda

·         2 teaspoons ground oatmeal

·         Water

Combine the two solid ingredients and add small amounts of water until a paste-like substance is formed. Apply the mixture to your face in small circles and massage as you go, allowing the recipe to soak into your pores. Once you’ve applied a thorough amount to your skin, rinse all of the mixture off of your skin. Towel dry and apply moisturizer if desired.

Salty Scrub

·         ½ cup sea salt

·         ½ cup vegetable oil (or coconut oil)

·         Desired Essential Oil

Combine the salt and vegetable or coconut oils until well blended. Add about 12 drops of essential oil to add a relaxing element and fragrance. Be sure to apply the mixture to your body or face only when wet to avoid irritation. For best results, use a loofah or bath glove to gently scrub the mixture onto the surface of your skin. Follow this routine with a thorough rinse and apply moisturizer if desired.

Savory Sugar Scrub

·         1 cup granulated sugar

·         ½ cup vegetable oil (or coconut oil)

·         Desired Essential Oil

Stir together the sugar and oil until they are one blended substance. Add about 12 drops of essential oil to add nourishment and fragrance.  Apply the mixture to wet skin and rub around with a washcloth or sponge to allow the mixture additional exfoliation. Rinse off the sugar scrub and apply moisturizer if desired.
