Spruce Up Your Spring Cleaning with Essential Oils
It might be hard to believe, but spring is nearly here! With the changing of the seasons, many people take the opportunity to do a deep clean after a long winter cooped up indoors. If you are looking for an alternative to chemical-laden grocery store cleaners then consider making your own. Try using essential oils and embrace a more natural way to spruce up your space!
One of my favorite parts of spring is the smell of the outdoors. Using herbal scents in your room spray is a great way to bring that freshness into your home. Here’s a great recipe from Hello Glow that uses juniper, rosemary, frankincense, and jasmine oils that will have you ready for warm weather!
1.5 oz distilled water
1.5 oz vodka or witch hazel
8 drops juniper essential oil
6 drops rosemary essential oil
4 drops frankincense
6 drops jasmine essential oil
Mix all ingredients together in a small spray bottle and spritz all over your home.
Laundry Stain Remover
Set in stains? Grease stains? Not a problem for lemon essential oil! Lemon oil not only gives your laundry a fresh scent, but it is a great pre-treatment for stains that normal laundry detergent can’t handle alone. Just rub some lemon oil on the offending stain and throw it in the wash. Easy and natural!
Just because essential oils are natural it doesn’t mean that they can’t be a powerful disinfectant and cleanser! I already touched on the disinfectant properties of tea tree oil in a previous post, but I love this version that includes lavender essential oil – another oil with antibacterial properties.
¾ cup distilled water
¼ cup white vinegar
7 drops lavender essential oil
7 drops tea tree oil
Mix all ingredients in an 8 oz spray bottle and use it to disinfect the surfaces of your home. Don’t forget to shake the bottle before every use!
You might think that there is no way that a homemade cleaner can compete with Windex or other specialized glass cleaners, but you may be surprised! The secret ingredient in this mix? Orange Oil!
2 cups water
¼ cup vinegar
¼ cup rubbing alcohol
1ml or 75 drops orange oil
Mix all ingredients together in a large spray bottle, spray on windows, and wipe off with a microfiber cloth.
